10BaseT module EI 803F
When using the Ethernet module EI 803F together with the CPU
board PM 803F no battery buffering is ensured. Use the module
EI 813F instead.

Concept
This section aims at giving you some module-specific character-
istics. For general features and handling instructions that are
common to all Ethernet modules please refer to Section 6.1.
The 10BaseT module is designed for connecting the AC 800F to
the system bus. It can also be used as a redundancy link. A
10BaseT network always forms a point-to-point connection. If you
intend to connect more than two nodes to the 10BaseT network,
you have to provide the appropriate network switches and hubs.
Switch and hub networks are a commonly used technology. Many
vendors offer such switches and hubs. Due to its well-known and
widespread RJ45 connector any off-the-shelf switch or hub can
be connected to the 10BaseT module EI 803F.
If the chosen switch or hub permits connection to another
Ethernet network like 10Base2, AUI or FO, this opens up any
other Ethernet medium to you.
Please contact you local ABB service center for recommenda-
tions related to switches and hubs and proposals for the appro-
priate 10BaseT network for your plant.
The 10BaseT module is electrically isolated and has an RJ45
connector with overvoltage protection.
A LAN controller is the heart of the 10BaseT module EI 803F. Its hardware interface is
tailored to the processor on the CPU board. It pre-processes the transmit or receive
data in accordance with the Ethernet standard and, thus, considerably reduces the
work load of the main processor, which then only has to communicate net data (via
DMA). The synchronization with the main processor is achieved through DMA control
signals and interrupt signals.
