  • Page 2 There are two ways to configure the Router. Choose one of the following: • Run the Setup CD-ROM - Insert the Setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and follow the on-screen instructions. • Use this Quick Installation guide - If you wish, you can use the Router’s Web-based Utility.
  • Page 3 Connect one end of an Ethernet network cable to one of the numbered ports on the back of the Router. Connect the other end to an Ethernet port on a network device, e.g., a PC, print server, or switch. Repeat this step to connect more PCs or other network devices to the Router.
  • Page 4 Configure the Router NOTE: Make sure your PC’s Ethernet adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically. For more information, refer to Windows Help. Open your web browser. Enter http://192.168.1.1 in its Address field. Press the Enter key. A password request screen will User name appear.
  • Page 5 For the Internet Connection Type setting, six connection types are offered through the drop-down men. Each Setup screen and available features will differ depending on which connection type you select. Internet Configuration Type Automatic Configuration - DHCP: If you are connecting through DHCP DHCP or a dynamic IP address from your ISP , keep this default setting.
  • Page 6 PPTP: PPTP is a service used in Server Europe only. Complete the IP Address Subnet Mask , and Default Gateway fields. User Name Complete the PPTP Password fields. Select Keep Alive if you always want to be connected to your ISP , or select Connect on Demand if you are charged for the time that you are connected to your ISP .
  • Page 7 Network Name (SSID). The SSID is the network name shared by all devices in a wireless network. It is case-sensitive and must not have more than 32 characters (use any keyboard character). For added security, change the default SSID (linksys) to a unique name. Radio Band.
  • Page 8 Wireless SSID Broadcast. When wireless clients survey the local area for wireless networks to associate with, they will detect the SSID broadcast by the Router. To broadcast the Router's SSID, keep the default, Enabled. If you do not want to broadcast the Router's SSID, then select Disabled.
  • Page 9 Configure Wireless Security Open the Router’s Web Utility as shown in Step 2, and click the Wireless tab. Click the Wireless Security tab. Select the security method you want to use: PSK/PSK2 Personal, WEP , PSK/PSK2 Enterprise, or RADIUS. For PSK/PSK2 Personal and WEP , proceed to the appropriate instructions.
